Studying English for complex communication requires hard work especially English is not our language. There are some reasons why we can say like that. Firstly, there are some differences between Indonesian and English especially in the structure of sentences. For example Indonesian does not have grammatical roles like tenses, linking, and irregular verb. Instead of it, English have grammatical roles like tenses and every tense have their own type of verb, be it infinitive verb, past tense verb, or past participle verb.
Secondly, there are a lot of English vocabularies that we should memorize them. When we want to have a good complex communication especially in speaking, we should master a lot of English words. It is to show our capabilities in speaking English. However, English has a lot of vocabularies. As the evidence, according to a joint research team of Harvard University researchers and Google recorded an increasing of English vocabulary reached 8500 words per year. Now the total has reached 1.022 million words.
Thirdly, English has a lot of words which are having almost same pronunciation or meaning but actually they are different. It can make the English learner confuse to use those words. For example borrow and lend. They have same meaning in Indonesian ‘ meminjam ‘ but the time to use borrow or lend is different. Borrowing is taking for a time. You borrow something from somebody. Lending is giving for a time. You lend something to somebody.
Last of all, English has difference between the spealing and the pronounciation. It usually makes Indonesian difficult to learn English. They are confused with the pronunciation. For example book, if we pronounce it in Indonesian, it will be “bok” but it should be pronounced “bƱk” in English.
Finally, because of those reasons, it proves that studying English for complex communication requires hard work. Especially nowadays, English has becomes one of world languages. So, we should learn English seriously and hardly.
